Dia do Bolinho - Portuguese Cake Tradition
Another year that our boss Isabel "tasted" us with her traditional "bolinho", the recipe for which originated in the area of Santarém (center of Portugal), where her mother's homeland was.
As always, they were delicious...
From all employees, Thank you very much!
The tradition is that on this day, children go out into the street and knock on doors asking for cookies (this traditional "bolinho"). As they knock on doors, the children say the famous phrase: "Auntie, can I have a cookie?" (in Portuguese: "Ó tia, dá bolinho?") And so people offer them cakes, almonds, chestnuts, sweets or a coin, which the children put into cloth bags decorated with traditional motifs.
This happens on the morning 1st November.
